We received an email from one of our previous guests, Al Joynes who is the founder of Devon based Social enterprise domoredesign.com wrote something that encapsulates exactly how we want all families to feel when they stay at our South Devon Hotel:
‘I can’t thank you enough Soar Mill Cove Team. The room was a luxury, the food was out of this world and the facilities were exactly what we were looking for. However one particular gesture stuck with me as it made for a memory that, when looked back upon, raises a massive smile.
We chose Soar Mill Cove Hotel because it was on the coast with access to a beach but also close enough to explore Salcombe. There is nothing more heart warming than watching my daughter see things for the very first time – full of wonder, excitement and questions. Often older eyes take these things for granted.
We had spent the first couple of days of our break walking the coastal paths and taking trips into Salcombe. After a very good nights sleep my wife and I had decided to have a relaxing day sat on the beach taking in the sights. We would usually be armed with bat n’ balls, frisbee and bucket and spade to keep my 4 year old daughter amused, but alas we had nothing more than a picnic blanket.
After a delicious hearty breakfast, I got talking to the hotel receptionist who very kindly asked about our stay and plans for the day. Immediately I was presented with a bucket and crab line, she then disappeared returning with bait (local bacon) as ‘it’s the best’ – she was not wrong.
After a short walk to the beach and picnic blanket down, my arm was roughly tugged by my daughter to go and find some crabs. We saw so many of the South Devon Coast’s maritime species and spent hours and hours exploring and pitching the crab line. We caught a couple of ‘Pinchies’ but in the experience itself, it felt like my daughter and I grew together, not just bonded, but grew. Both of us shared excitement, learning and laughter but were also engaged for most of the day.
Thank you again Soar Mill Cove team, not only is your hotel a delight to stay in but your ethos of going above and beyond really made our break!’
